Pen and Ink Art Translations LLC is a boutique firm in New York City providing translations for the art and museum worlds.
Writing about art takes skill and expertise. Translating writing about art does, too. That’s why the translators in our network are more than language specialists — they’re also knowledgeable about the art world. We translate from French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, German, and Russian into English. We’re all native English speakers to ensure the most idiomatic and natural translations.
Like a pen and ink drawing, a translation must have every line and every word in the right place. We’re language artisans, and our attention to detail will guarantee that your text reads just as well in English as in the original.
Pen and Ink Art Translations is managed by Kate Deimling, who holds a Ph.D. in French from Columbia University and has worked as a French-to-English translator for over 10 years. Previously, she was the New York correspondent for the French art newspaper Le Journal des Arts and she has also written about street art for the American magazine Narratively. For three and a half years, she was the in-house translator for ARTINFO.com. Kate is ATA-certified as a French-to-English translator and is the former program director of the New York Circle of Translators. Some of her favorite artists are Gustave Courbet, Odilon Redon, and Paul Klee, along with contemporary artists Ursula von Rydingsvard, Marcel Dzama, and Molly Crabapple.
